Current Events Hurricanes

Hurricane Earl is storming towards the eastern United States. Its due to hit thursday going into the  weekend.

"The South Carolina coast is already seeing impacts from Earl with a high risk of dangerous rip currents and building surf," said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers.

The latest forecast shows Earl moving toward the Banks of North Carolina tonight with the possibility of a landfall near Cape Hatteras. Most scientists suggests Earl will stay just a little bit off of the coast, but a straight hit is possible.

"The forecast gets even more hairy on Friday as we try to figure out if Earl will be pulled back into the New England coast Friday night or early Saturday," said Marthers, who fears that the north coast of the United States may not be ready for the hurricane. "There is just a different mentality up that way compared to the preparedness levels along the southeast and gulf coasts."

Hurricane Watches and Warnings are in effect the eastern coastline from North Carolina through New England.

Would you head out of the state if you knew a hurricane was coming your way but might not hit you?
